SMIS Code - 318683
Designer: Consitrans SRL
General contractor: Joint venture Max Bogl Romania - Max Bogl Stiftung - Complex Delta SRL
Project Objective(s):
The project consists in the rehabilitation of the port infrastructure in the Cap Mol – Maritime Basin – Perimeter II area, administered by R.A. Sulina Free Zone Administration. At present, the port infrastructure targeted by the modernization investments shows significant deterioration, which is why it is used only occasionally. The deterioration of the quay creates risks and difficulties during berthing maneuvers and during the loading and unloading of goods.
The objective of the project is the modernization and development of the port infrastructure serving cargo ship traffic, according to the forecasted volume and characteristics of demand, with the purpose of increasing the efficiency and safety of port operations. The implementation of the project will lead to an average increase of approximately 125,000 tons/year in the quantities of goods operated annually in Romanian ports.
To achieve this objective, the investments target:
- Construction/rehabilitation of a vertical quay of estacade type with a length of 200 linear meters on the Danube
- Construction/rehabilitation of the quay platform, with a total area of 28,800 sqm
- Modernization/rehabilitation of the access road, with a length of 650 linear meters
- Modernization/creation of electrical installations for public lighting and ship supply
- Construction/rehabilitation of networks for supplying ships with water
- Construction/rehabilitation of sewerage networks
Target group and final beneficiaries:
- Port and logistics operators
- Agricultural and industrial producers
- Population of the South-East and North-East Regions
Main results and community impact:
The port infrastructure modernized under the project will become part of the public domain of Tulcea County and will be administered by AZL Sulina. The infrastructure created under the project will provide conditions for the economic development of the area and for job creation. In particular, the project will ensure the possibility of marketing the grain production from the Danube Delta area, which is currently lost due to the lack of transport options. The existence of modern port infrastructure will allow an increase in the use of river transport and, implicitly, will lead to an increase in the market share of this mode of transport.
